The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman

Retirement has never sounded so much fun!

Not sure about moving to Canada’s Three Pines? Try Coopers Chase instead . . .

When murder strikes at an idyllic retirement home in the English countryside, a new band of heroes rises, knees creaking. Joyce, Elizabeth, Ibrahim, and Ron leverage their life skills to unearth secrets and outfox a murderer or two.

The standout element is Richard Osman’s generosity and warmth towards his cast of elderly heroes, and his frank-but-tender portrayal of dementia and deterioration. The character of Stephen beautifully illustrates intelligence and charm becoming lost in the fog of dementia.

Full of red herrings and amusing observations on British class, The Thursday Murder Club lives up to its hype. I thoroughly enjoyed it. A perfect beach read or rainy day companion.
